OVERVIEW OF IROQUOIS’ MODEL UN PROGRAM
Model United Nations is a club that provides Iroquois students with the experience of participating in a mock United Nations conference with students from around the tri state area. Every year we represent a different country. This year happens to be Ukraine. Students learn about their country and choose an issue topic in which they are interested. Then committee groups develop proposals, from their country’s perspective, to solve the issues at hand. Iroquois collaborates on these proposals with several other high schools in area, including Fort LeBoeuf, Harbor Creek and North East. Once they are at the conference, students are challenged to be a part of the solution making process within their committee groups. The learning, collaboration and preparation that go into this conference make it a natural and fun extension of the Social Studies curriculum.
