IROQUOIS SCHOOL DISTRICT
RE: WABTEC Board of Assessment Appeals Decision
Date: Monday, November 4, 2019
After reviewing the Erie County Assessment Appeals Board decision, the Iroquois School District would like to thank the members for their time and effort. The Iroquois School Board was seeking to adjust the assessed value to reflect the actual market value of the Wabtec properties. Our decision to ask for this hearing is and has been about equity and exercising fiduciary responsibility for the residents of the Iroquois School District. This district-initiated appeal was done in a conscious effort to address significantly under-assessed properties that are now held by Wabtec, as evidenced by the values listed in their sales agreement. It is our united belief that all taxpayers pay a fair share of the overall tax burden and lessen the potential for increased taxes for all.
Both the Iroquois School District and Wabtec have the option to appeal this decision to the Erie County Courts within the next 30 days. The Iroquois School District Board will study this decision and determine their next steps at the next regularly scheduled board meeting.
